FAQs
We've listed below some of the questions we're asked most often.
How does distance learning work?
With distance learning you learn where and when you want. You can fit your study around your job, before and/or after work and/or at weekends, and we support you every step of the way.
As you progress through your distance learning course, you’ll find your ability and confidence growing all the time.
How much will it cost me?
The price of your distance learning course depends upon which qualification you want to achieve. But whatever course you choose you can be sure that you are getting the best value for money possible with Wolsey Hall. The price of each distance learning course is shown on the page dedicated to that qualification. And we make things even easier for you by allowing you to spread the cost of your payment using our easy payment scheme.
How long will it take me?
That depends on your prior knowledge and how quickly you learn. But we estimate, on average, 200 hrs for a GCSE subject and 700 hours for an A-Level subject (350 hrs for AS and 350 hrs for A2). Starting in September that would require you to spend 5 – 7 hours per week for a GCSE in May/June 2010 or 8 – 9 hours per week for an A-Level in June 2011.
The timescale for distance learning business and accounting courses will again depend on your prior knowledge of the subjects, how quickly you learn, and, importantly, whether you have the opportunity to apply what you learn in your workplace. You should allow a minimum 9-12 months for your chosen level of course, studying for 5-7 hours per week.
How soon will I be able to start?
You’ll be able to start your distance learning course as soon as your enrolment form is completed and you have made your first payment.
Will I have to sit an examination?
Most qualification-based distance learning courses require you to sit an examination in order to achieve the qualification, although some of our business and management distance learning courses are graded by continuous assessment. You'll find the examination information for each course on the relevant course page.
Our Exams Officer will give you all the advice and support you need in connection with sitting your examination and advice on examination centres in your area.
Please note that exam fees are not included in your course fee.
Can I study from outside the UK?
You can study Wolsey Hall distance learning courses from outside the UK as easily as if you were a UK resident. Usually you can sit your exam at your local British Council offices but we suggest you contact the British Council before you begin your course to make certain.
What qualifications will I receive at the end of my course?
On successful completion of your home study course you’ll receive a qualification from the awarding body for your qualification (e.g. from Cambridge International Examinations, Edexcel , IAM etc) Each course page shows exactly what qualification you’ll receive at the end of the course.
