Learning and development is an investment in the people who work for your organisation. But as with any investment, the organisation is going to want to see a return.
For many years investment in learning and development has been a leap of faith, and little attempt has been made to demonstrate that the money spent has made a difference. For example, Wolsey Hall worked with Shell Exploration and Production to implement flexible, management development programmes for first-line and middle managers. The programme used an integrated approach comprising a combination of open learning workbooks, online learning and a series of workshops focusing on skills development.
Shell’s own evaluation of the programmes showed cost savings of £18 million for a training investment of £400,000 with Wolsey Hall.
